U.S. regulators set to ban Meta from buying app development company

U.S. market regulators filed a lawsuit on Wednesday to block Meta from buying a virtual reality fitness app maker, in a move that could hurt the tech giant’s ambitions.

In a federal complaint, the FTC alleged Facebook Meta was illegally trying to expand its virtual reality empire by buying Inside Unlimited, the creator of the Supernatural fitness app.

“Instead of fighting for advantages, Meta is trying to fight its way to the top,” John Newman, deputy director of the commission’s competition division, said in a statement, stressing that “this is an illegal acquisition.”
