The President of Turkmenistan reprimanded the ministers of defense and national security

The state-run Turkmenistan newspaper reported that head of state Serdar Berdymukhammedov reprimanded Defense Minister Begnich Gundugdev, Secretary of the State Security Council and Minister of National Security Kurbanmirat Anaev.

The Russian-language newspaper stated that shortcomings in the work of the two ministers were the reason for the official reprimand.

The newspaper points out that the President signed the corresponding resolution at a meeting of the National Security Council, during which the results of the work of the country’s law enforcement agencies in the first half of the year were discussed.

The text of the punishment addressed to both ministers was formulated in the same way – “for unsatisfactory performance of official duties, shortcomings in work.” Other details are not reported.

It is noteworthy that the Minister of Defense has been holding this position since 2018. As for Gurbanmerat Anaev, in 2020 he headed the Ministry of National Security of Turkmenistan.
