Outcome of the Mediterranean Games.. Italy leads and Algeria first in the Arab world.

Italy became the winner of the 19th Mediterranean Games, which ends today, Wednesday, in the Algerian city of Oran, ahead of Turkey, France and Algeria.

Ahead of the women’s and men’s handball final scheduled for the Wednesday after the Games, Italy won 159 medals, including 48 gold, 50 silver and 61 bronze, down 8 gold from the previous session.

Turkey, which topped the medal table until last Sunday, came in second with a total of 108 medals (45 gold, 26 silver and 37 bronze), one more gold than the previous session.

France finished third with 21 gold, 24 silver and 36 bronze (81 in total).

Algeria recorded a historic participation by finishing fourth after winning 53 medals, including 20 golds, 17 silvers and 16 bronzes, knowing that its best presence at the Mediterranean Games was in 2001 in Tunisia when it won 32 medals, including 10 gold.

Spain, which finished second in the previous session, fell back to fifth with 64 medals, including 14 golds.

So far, Egypt has come in sixth place with 50 medals, including 13 gold medals, pending the result of the men’s handball final, which is being assembled in Spain.

Tunisia finished tenth with 27 medals, including 6 gold, 8 silver and 13 bronze.

As for the ranking of the rest of the Arab countries, Syria is in 14th place with 7 medals, including 4 gold and 3 silver.

Just behind him in fifteenth place is Morocco with 33 medals, including 3 gold, 13 silver and 17 bronze.

Libya is in 24th place with a bronze medal, while Lebanon received no medals.
