The authorities of Zaporozhye reveal the reasons for the shutdown of power units at nuclear power plants

Volodymyr Rogov, a member of the Council of the Zaporozhye Regional Administration, said that the reason for stopping the operation of all power units of the nuclear power plant lies in the possibility of an emergency.

Rogov noted that the turbines and reactors at the station are working intermittently due to continuous Ukrainian bombing.

Rogov said that Ukrainian forces are constantly bombing station facilities, infrastructure facilities and high-voltage lines with heavy artillery and rocket launchers.

Earlier, the authorities of the region announced the suspension of the operation of the last power unit – the sixth at the station.

Rogov noted that during the decommissioning of the sixth power unit, a “cold shutdown” system was used, which will allow it to be restarted in the future.

He said: “The specified power unit has been transferred to the cold shutdown mode. This means that it does not produce electricity, and at the same time it must consume electricity to cool the reactor. Thus, standby diesel generators continue to work, this is a temporary solution.”

Rogov added: “The shutdown of the power units at the station is due to the fact that the crew working on it was forced to constantly change the system of operation of the reactors and turbines of the power units. The continuous bombardment of the station and its surroundings caused significant damage to the power lines, which forced the crew to constantly change the system of power units, which is very harmful to them.

Rogov emphasized that high voltage lines from the liberated lands were damaged and interrupted due to point bombing by Ukrainian forces. At the same time, the Kyiv authorities deliberately cut off the supply of electricity from the station to the territory under their control.
