Surprise. Egypt national team seeks naturalization of an American player for participation in tournaments

The Egyptian Basketball Association, led by Magdi Abu Freiha, has applied for the naturalization of an American player so that he joins the Egyptian national team in the near future.

According to the Cairo 24 website, the Basketball Association has filed a request for approval to grant Egyptian citizenship to an American in order to be able to participate with the Egyptian national team in international forums, especially in the 2023 World Cup and the Paris 24 Olympics.

Egypt are in second place with 16 points after winning two matches against Tunisia and Cameroon and losing to South Sudan to complete the third phase of the Africa World Cup qualifiers.

While South Sudan is at the top of the table with 17 points, Senegal is in third place with 15 points, followed by Tunisia, Congo and Cameroon with 14, 13.11 respectively.

The basketball team is gearing up for the African qualifier for the World Cup, the fourth and final stage to be held next February, where the Egyptian team will face Tunisia, Cameroon and South Sudan again at a time to be determined.

The leader and runner-up of each group directly qualifies for the World Cup, while the best third-place winner will complete the five-team Africa World Cup contract, subject to the results of the other group.
