Ryabkov: Maduro’s visit to Russia will be discussed at a meeting of the Russia-Venezuela Intergovernmental Commission

Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov said that the visit of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to Russia will be discussed during a meeting of the Russian-Venezuelan high-level government commission.

Commenting on the prospects for the visit of the President of Venezuela to Moscow, Ryabkov called for postponing consideration of the issue until the end of the work of the intergovernmental commission.

Ryabkov said: “The current visit of the Russian delegation to the meeting of the Russian-Venezuelan high-level government commission will take place, and then we will talk about this issue.”

Ryabkov stressed that the program for the visit of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak is still being formed.

According to the deputy minister, “many issues” are also planned to be discussed at the meeting of the intergovernmental commission, including interaction in the form of a group of friends of the UN Charter, in which Russia and Venezuela play a large role. He stated that “recently, a meeting of deputy foreign ministers was held in Tehran, in this formula of states seeking to ensure the sovereign equality of all participants in international relations, non-interference in internal affairs, and allow them to choose their own path.

Ryabkov added that the role of Venezuela in the Non-Aligned Movement is important for Russia and said: “We will have a serious conversation with them about the situation in Latin America and the Caribbean, where mysterious processes are taking place,” and stressed that “the visit of the President of Cuba to Russia was very fruitful.”
