Russian athletes face possible entry visa denial from Germany

German Interior Minister Nancy Weser threatened to deny Russian athletes entry visas to Germany.

And waz.de quoted the German minister as saying: “Countries hosting major sporting events are not powerless. They can, through the visa departments, influence whether the Russians will actually participate.”

Pfizer indicated that if the competition takes place in Germany, the country will be able to determine the category allowed to participate.

At the same time, Weser spoke out against the boycott of German athletes in competitions in which Russians compete, stressing that “it would harm our athletes, who have always been committed to achieving sporting goals.”

It was decided to impose a ban on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in most sporting events from 2022, but last month the International Olympic Committee recommended that sports federations be allowed to return as neutral athletes.

On the other hand, the International Equestrian Federation followed the approach of the International Association of Athletics Federations by refusing to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to return to international competition, while the International Wrestling and Swimming Federations seek to re-enter their championships. .

It is noteworthy that the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee does not yet include the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
