Qatar Prepares to Transfer 2022 World Cup Stadium to Tunisia

The Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of Qatar, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, said during a working visit to Tunisia that his country was ready to transfer one of the stadiums of the World Cup to Tunisia.

Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani said that Qatar is ready to cooperate in the sports field by transferring one of the stadiums that hosted the recent World Cup final to Tunisia, the Tunisian president said in a statement.

Earlier reports referred to a request from the Tunisian authorities to hand over to Tunisia “stadium 974”, which is mostly dismantled shipping containers.

The Qatari authorities previously announced that Stadium 974, whose name refers to the number of containers used in its construction and a symbol of the international communication of the State of Qatar, “will be used for other purposes after the curtain falls.” championship competitions.

With a capacity of more than 44,000 spectators, the 974 Stadium has made history before the 2022 World Cup due to its construction entirely from shipping containers and the ability to re-dismantle and reuse various parts of it in the construction of other sports facilities, according to the Qatar 2022 website.
