Medvedev’s elimination failure against friend in Madrid Tournament’s third round

Russian Daniil Medvedev was hurt on Monday after knocking out his friend and compatriot Alexander Shevchenko in a marathon match that he finished 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 to reach the fourth round of the Madrid tennis tournament.

It took Medvedev, ranked third in the world, two hours and 42 minutes to break the barrier of Shevchenko, with whom he has been friends for six years.

Medvedev’s qualifier, who has never won the Madrid tournament, was today a continuation of the success of the Russian players in the current version, as Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev won the 1/8 finals of the competition yesterday, Sunday, to compete with each other for a qualifying card for the quarterfinals tomorrow, Tuesday.

While Medvedev is waiting in the fourth round for the winner of the match, Australian Alex de Minor and another Russian Aslan Karatsev.
