Elizabeth II interrupted her vacation "for eyes" new British prime minister

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II will cut short her vacation in Scotland and return to England to meet with the new British Prime Minister.

The 96-year-old Queen will “invite” the winning Conservative candidate for prime minister and announce his name.

The Queen does not normally return from Balmoral until early October, but she is believed to have told aides that she would make an exception this year and return to London.

A source said: “Her Majesty the Queen does not expect the new Prime Minister to travel to Scotland, so the plan is for the Queen to travel to him.”

Appointing a prime minister is one of the Queen’s few personal prerogatives, and sources say it’s a responsibility she intends to take on personally.

Buckingham Palace is seen as the official meeting place, but renovations there could turn the ceremony into Windsor Castle.

The Queen’s visit to welcome the new Prime Minister is expected to be short and she will return to Balmoral to continue her vacation.

Other aspects of her annual leave have been curtailed this year, such as the cancellation of attendance and security checks before she settles in Balmoral.

Notably, Boris Johnson has said he will step down as prime minister on September 6 when he formally tenders his resignation to the Queen.
