Russian Medvedev won the Los Cobos tournament

World No. 1 Russian Daniil Medvedev won the title of champion of the Mexican hard-court tennis tournament in Los Cobos after defeating Britain’s Cameron Nouri, who placed third in the tournament.

Medvedev managed to beat Nuri in two unanswered sets, (7-5) and (6-0) in the final match between them on Sunday, which lasted only one hour and 22 minutes.

Daniil Medvedev, 26, has won his first title since September 2021, having lost 5 finals since he won the last US Open, last Grand Slam and is currently the 14th title of his professional career.

The Russian player continued his successful return to the stadiums after an absence of about 6 weeks, namely after his exit from the quarter-finals of the Spanish tournament in Mallorca on June 23, before he missed the Wimbledon tournament due to a ban on the participation of players from Russia and Belarus as a result of the Russian military operations in Ukraine.

Medvedev is preparing to defend his title in the US Championship, the last of four Grand Slams, on the Flushing Meadows hard courts he crowned last year, at the expense of Serb Novak Djokovic, his rival for world number one.

The Russian player has ensured that he stays at the top of the world rankings and this is the position he will compete in in the Flushing Meadows scheduled to run from August 29th to September 11th.
