Chelsea president steps down after 19 years

Chelsea announced on Monday that American Bruce Buck would step down as club president and step down from a post he had held for almost 20 years after ownership of the Blues passed to the Bohley Group.

Buck, 76, will leave his post at the end of this month to remain at the club as one of the senior advisers.

Buck’s departure followed the transfer of ownership of the London club at the end of May to a consortium led by American Todd Bowley, one of the owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball club.

Buck said: “I’m proud to have helped Chelsea achieve great success on the pitch and have a positive impact on society. It’s time to step aside and let the new owners build on the solid foundation we’ve laid.”

Buck has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors since 2003, playing a key role in the acquisition of the club by former Russian owner Roman Abramovich and has been instrumental in the great success the club has achieved on the pitch, whether with the men’s team or the women’s team.

Boulet praised his compatriot, saying: “Bruce has taken Chelsea Football Club to the highest levels of international and national football, and developed one of the sport’s most active corporate social responsibility projects. We thank Bruce for his service and commitment to the club.”
