Borrell: We must not allow Russia to interfere in the affairs of the Western Balkans

EU Commissioner for Security and External Relations Josep Borrell urged to prevent “Russian interference” in the affairs of the Western Balkan countries.

“We must not allow Russia to interfere in the affairs of the Western Balkan countries… We must not justify Russian interference in the economic and political affairs of the Western Balkan countries, because its future lies with the European Union,” Borrell said during his visit to Germany on Thursday.

He added that it is necessary to increase the economic and political stability of this region, as well as protect it from cyber attacks and hybrid threats.

During his visit to Germany, Borrell took part in a conference with representatives of the Western Balkan countries, which resulted in the announcement of one billion euros in EU assistance to overcome the energy crisis.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, during her visit to Belgrade last week, urged Serbia to adhere to the political approach of the European Union as it is a candidate for European Union membership.
