US President Joe Biden on Tuesday ordered US flags to be flown at half-mast over the White House and military bases until Saturday to honor the victims of the Highland Park, Illinois shooting.
After a shooting at a commemorative Independence Day rally in suburban Chicago, Illinois that left 6 people dead and about 30 injured, Biden said, “A nation must unite in mourning for the dead as America’s birthday celebration.”
And he added in a statement: “In deference to the victims of senseless gun violence… I hereby order the flag of the United States to be flown at half mast.”
The U.S. flag at half-mast order applies to the White House and all federal buildings, military bases, embassies and consulates abroad and will be in effect until next Saturday.
