Barcelona have raised the price of an offer made by Bayern Munich, the German football champions, to give their top scorer to the Polish national team, Robert Lewandowski, to 40 million euros.
Barcelona initially made an offer of 32 million euros, then increased it to 35 million before it reached 40 million, according to German newspaper Bild on Wednesday.
So far, Bayern Munich are demanding 60 million for the rejection of the 34-year-old footballer, who twice (2020 and 2021) won the FIFA award as the best player in the world, Bild reports.
In light of Barcelona’s difficult financial situation, Lewandowski’s contract could be linked to other deals, including the departure of Dutch international Frankie de Jong to Manchester United in a €65m deal that would give the Catalan club funding is needed to settle the contract with Barcelona.

Earlier this month, Bayern sporting director Hasan Salimadzic confirmed his commitment to Lewandowski before his contract expires next year.
“I have clearly explained our position regarding the state of his contract,” Salimadzic told Bild, referring to a phone call he had with the 33-year-old Polish player on Tuesday.
Lewandowski announced at the end of May that his “story” with the German club was “ending” during a press conference with the Polish national team, later justifying the situation with a desire to seek “extra passion in life”. “
Lewandowski has been defending the Bayern club since 2014, scoring 344 goals, and his current contract expires at the end of 2023, which means staying at Bayern for an extra season without renewing his contract will make him a free player next season and go to free.
