At least 18 people have died when a passenger bus collided with a fuel truck in Mexico.

Mexican authorities said at least 18 people were killed in the north of the country when a passenger bus collided with a tanker loaded with fuel.

Prosecutors said the accident occurred on a highway leading to the northern city of Monterrey in the state of Tamaulipas and may have been caused by one of two tanker trailers coming loose.

Sources said the tanker’s driver survived the accident and has been handed over for investigation.
