7.6 magnitude earthquake strikes eastern Papua New Guinea

The US Geological Survey said a 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit Papua New Guinea.

She said that the epicenter of the earthquake was in the east of the country and there are fears of a tsunami.

The USGS said the quake struck at a depth of 61 kilometers (38 miles), about 67 kilometers from the city of Kainanto, warning of possible tsunami waves 1,000 kilometers from the epicenter.
