Algeria’s Communications Minister fired the director of the government newspaper Al Shaab for a “serious mistake” by posting an image of the Moroccan national team instead of an image of the Algerian national team on the occasion of the latter’s match against France at the Mediterranean Games.

“Today, Thursday, Mr. Mustafa Hemisi’s duties at the head of the public newspaper (Al-Shaab) were terminated for making a serious mistake,” the Ministry of Communications said in a statement released on Thursday evening, Friday, without elaboration. .

According to the statement, he was also replaced by the director of the state newspaper Al-Masaa.

Bloggers and online media outlets published a photo of the front page of the Al Shaab newspaper on Thursday, showing the Moroccan under-18 team instead of Algeria, knowing that the situation between the two countries is at its worst due to Algeria. decision to end diplomatic relations about a year ago.

Morocco, Algeria, France and Spain were in the same group at the Mediterranean Games currently held in Algiers and Morocco qualified with France for the semi-finals after a first draw with Spain in the last round 1-1 and a second victory over Algeria 3-2 .

Algeria failed to qualify after recording a previous loss to Morocco with one win over Spain.

The Algerian city of Oran will host the 19th Mediterranean Games, which will be attended by about 3,400 athletes from 26 countries, including 18 European, 5 African and 3 Asian.
