French coach Zinedine Zidane, a former Real Madrid coach, said his compatriot striker Karim Benzema is an exceptional player and deserves this year’s Ballon d’Or.
Zidane described his relationship with Karim Benzema as his mother’s younger brother, expressing his support for the compatriot in winning the Ballon d’Or for the world’s best player in 2022, after leading the Meringues to win the Spanish League and Champions League titles in exceptional season.
Zidane said in an interview with the French newspaper L’Equipe on the occasion of his fiftieth birthday: “Karim is my little brother, whom my mother did not give birth to. It’s always very good in Madrid.”
Zidane added in press statements: “Benzema is just an exceptional player. Does he deserve to win the Ballon d’Or this year? It’s not just me who thinks so, the whole world says so.”
