Winter 2022 will be twice as bad for the British pocket

Many UK residents will face serious financial hardship this winter as they have to pay double what they paid for electricity last year.

This has happened, according to John Pettigrew, chief executive of the UK National Grid, who indicated that this winter will be worse for the British in terms of costs, despite capping the annual electricity bill at £2,500.

“Even with the marginal price, this is twice what people are used to paying for energy. Therefore, some people will inevitably face (financial) difficulties, ”Pettigrew was quoted by the Financial Times.

By comparison, last year the average annual electricity bill was £1,277, about half what it is today. Even a £400 rebate could not make up the difference due to higher energy prices.

Pettigrew believes that after the end of the freezing of accounts, the UK government should develop a more effective system of support for the population and introduce “something like a social tariff.”
