Wayne Rooney returns to MLS as coach

Former England striker Wayne Rooney has reached an agreement to coach American club DC United, who defended their colors as a player between 2018 and 2019, according to local media.

ESPN and The Athletic have confirmed that Rooney, 36, will join the team once the visa process is completed.

Athletic correspondent Pablo Iglesias Maouard tweeted a photo of Rooney at Dulles International Airport outside Washington on Sunday.

And the former Manchester United striker will replace Argentine Hernan Lozada, who was suspended from his duties just 6 games before the start of the season due to the team’s poor results.

D.C. United also failed to return to a winning streak following Losada’s departure, as they currently sit second to last in Eastern Province with 17 points in 17 games.
