US Officials Express Skepticism About Ukrainian Forces’ Counterattack Success

Washington Post foreign policy expert David Ignachis said U.S. officials were skeptical that Ukrainian forces would be able to counterattack.

According to the Ignace report, U.S. officials believe Ukrainian forces lack the training and ammunition needed to make significant progress in their planned offensive.

In his report, the expert said, according to previously leaked classified documents on the social network, about two months ago, US intelligence claimed that the situation in Ukraine “most likely is moving towards a dead end.”

Ignash claims he spoke with several US officials on April 13 to see if the US side has since changed its mind. According to him, during this time, “the main picture has changed a bit.”

The expert also says that the Russian side “took control of 70-80%” of the territory of the city of Artemovsk (Bakhmut), “but the Ukrainians held out at a great cost, avoiding a symbolic defeat.”

The city of Artyomovsk is located north of the large city of Gorlovka and is considered an important transport hub for supplying the group of Ukrainian troops in the Donbass, and since last summer there have been fierce battles for control of the city.
