UNHCR: 1,200 migrants drowned or went missing in the first half of 2022

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees announced that 1,200 migrants drowned or went missing at sea in the first half of this year.

The UNHCR office in Athens released the statistics as the Greek Navy continues its ongoing search for missing persons after a migration boat sank off the coast of Rhodes last Wednesday.

A 15-meter boat sank near a small port near the Turkish city of Antalya. Rescued 34 people: 29 from the Greek Coast Guard and five from the Turkish Coast Guard.
