UN: Coordination center in Istanbul will facilitate the safe passage of ships through the Black Sea

Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, confirmed that the organization expects a clearing house established in Istanbul to help food and fertilizer ships safely pass through the Black Sea.

“The Coordinating Center will contribute to the implementation of the grain initiative, within which a humanitarian maritime corridor is being created for the passage of ships with grain exported from Ukraine and related food products,” Haq said.

He stressed that the creation of a coordination center “will facilitate the passage of merchant ships carrying food and fertilizers from three major Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea.”

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar today announced the opening of the Grain Coordination Center in Istanbul to ensure the shipment of grain from Ukrainian ports, noting that the UN will coordinate all the activities of the center.
