UK reopens largest gas storage facility

The British newspaper The Telegraph reported, citing sources, that the UK’s huge Rough natural gas storage facility in the United Kingdom will be reopened.

“Centrica, the owner of British Gas, is ready to start pumping natural gas into the feedstock storage facility in early September after receiving approval from the Occupational Health and Safety Administration,” the newspaper said.

The newspaper pointed to the need to reach an agreement between Centrica and the government on state support, and according to sources, officials and Centrica intend to complete negotiations in time for the company to start loading oil in just over two weeks.

Bloomberg previously reported, citing sources, that the British government and Centrica are considering storing natural gas at a remote Air Force facility before it is converted to hydrogen storage in the future.

Britain’s largest energy supplier, Centrica, said in 2017 that it would close the Raff facility, which accounts for about 70% of all UK natural gas storage capacity.
