Tunisian Economy Minister: Continuous Relations with the World Bank

Tunisian Economy and Planning Minister Samir Said said relations with the World Bank have never ended.

Samir Saeed added that his board of directors will discuss the Qatar-Tunisia agreement next week.

He stated that if continued support is approved for the next five years, the priorities will be infrastructure support, social development, investment support and especially support for public-private partnerships.

Said’s statement came on the sidelines of the signing of an agreement to finance the projects of the National Disinfection Administration between the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the ministries of environment and economy on the eve of Friday, June 2, 2023.

Tunisian media reported that, as part of supporting the operation of a number of treatment facilities in the north and south of Tunisia, an agreement was signed between Tunisia, represented by the ministries of economy and the environment, and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

This project aims to improve the quality of disinfection services by developing mechanisms for the disposal of disinfectants through a partnership between the public and the private sector, the total cost of which is estimated at 1,746 million dinars.

The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development is contributing 113.6 million euros, which will be used to complete the necessary work to rehabilitate and upgrade obsolete stationary equipment at wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations, in addition to auxiliary facilities and support of the National Cleaning Office during the implementation of the project.

The project will cover the regions of Greater North Tunisia, the vilayets of Sfax, Gabes, Medenine and Tataouine and will provide a total capacity of 137,000 office meters per day.
