70 dead and 500 injured in train collision in India

The death toll from a collision between two passenger trains and a freight train in the Indian state of Odisha has risen to 70, according to India Today.

It stated that at least 70 people had died as a result of the collision of three trains.

For its part, Agence France-Presse, citing the secretary general of the state of Odisha, indicated that the number of victims in the accident was more than 500 people.

Information received indicates that the accident occurred when a passenger train and a freight train collided in India on Friday afternoon near the city of Balasore.

A passenger train was en route from Calcutta to Chennai when several carriages derailed.
