US police have announced that a truck driver who crashed into a security barrier near the White House has been charged with multiple charges, including endangering the life or harming the president, his vice president, or a member of his family.
The police statement said the charges include: “Assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless act with a truck, threats to kill, kidnap, or harm the president, vice president, or a member of his family, destruction of federal property, and violation.”
The FBI’s DC National Response Unit is assisting the Park Police and the US Secret Service with the investigation.
Police have not yet released the identity of the truck driver, who a source confirmed deliberately crashed into a fence.
