Tragic Explosion in France Leaves 1 Dead, 7 Police Officers Injured

French media reported on Wednesday evening that one person was killed and 7 members of the security forces were injured, three seriously, in an explosion while detaining a man at his home in La Chapelle-Palais, in the center of the country.

The media added that the security forces broke into the house to arrest a man wanted by the authorities, but there was an explosion in the latter’s house, as a result of which he died and 7 security officers were injured.

The media reported that the deceased had called for several days and threatened to kill him, especially against a client of the Integration and Prisons Service (SPIN).

It said that two seriously wounded gendarmes had been airlifted to Lyon, while a third wounded man had been transferred to Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital in southeastern France.

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin tweeted: “Seven gendarmes were injured, three of them seriously, in an explosion as part of an intervention against the Allies. I offer them my full support.”
