The White House responded to Bezos after his statements about Biden’s economic illiteracy

White House press secretary Karen Jean-Pierre has slammed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos for supporting oil and gas companies’ drive to “make record profits at the expense of the American people.”

“Oil prices have dropped by about $15 in the last month, but gas station prices have barely dropped,” she said. “It’s not a major market move. It’s a market that is failing the American consumer.”

“I think it’s not surprising that oil and gas companies using market power to generate record profits at the expense of the American people is how our economy should function,” she added.

Earlier, Bezos commented on US President Joe Biden’s request from gas station owners to lower gasoline prices and said: “The American leader either has imagination or demonstrates a deep misunderstanding of the fundamental dynamics of the market.”

Biden linked the economic crisis in the country to the aggravation of the crisis in Ukraine, describing the rise in inflation in the United States as “Putin’s rise in prices.”

For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on these statements as “dedicated to those who cannot read and write.”

He pointed out that “problems with food and fuel are the result of systematic errors of the Washington administration and the European bureaucracy.”
