Taiwan: 22 Chinese warplanes enter air defense zone

Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense announced that 22 Chinese aircraft violated Taiwan’s airspace again today, news sites reported.

This comes days after Taipei announced that 29 Chinese aircraft, including six H-6 bombers and an electronic intelligence gathering aircraft, had infiltrated Taiwan’s air defense zone.

Taiwan, which China claims is part of its territory, has complained about the repeated sorties by Chinese aircraft that have become commonplace over the past two years or so.

“Taiwan does not want to close the door to China and is willing to communicate in good faith, but on the basis of equality and without political preconditions,” Taiwan’s premier Su Qing-chan said earlier.

Relations between Taipei and Beijing have fallen to their lowest level in decades. China claims that democratically ruled Taiwan is its territory.
