Sullivan predicts Ukraine’s strategic areas to be recaptured from Russia through counter-offensive

US national security adviser Jake Sullivan expressed Washington’s confidence that a potential Ukrainian counterattack would allow Kyiv to seize strategically important regions now under Russian control.

“We are confident that the counterattack will allow Ukraine to retake strategically important territories from Russia,” Sullivan said in an interview with CNN.

He stressed that Washington intends to help Kyiv achieve as much progress as possible on the battlefield, to take the best position at the table of future peace negotiations. “We are confident that the Ukrainians will succeed in this counterattack,” he said.

Earlier, US Senator Lindsey Graham, during a visit to Kyiv, said that Vladimir Zelensky had provided him with a “detailed analysis” of the plans of the Ukrainian military to launch a counterattack.

According to Graham, in the coming days, the Ukrainian side will arrange “an impressive show of force.” The senator also said that “strike has already begun, which strain the Russian defense.”

Russia has already sent a memorandum to the “NATO” countries because of the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov indicated that any arms shipment to Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russia, and that NATO countries were “playing with fire” by supplying weapons to Ukraine.

Lavrov also mentioned that the US and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine, “including not only the supply of weapons, but also the training of personnel … in the UK, Germany, Italy and other countries.”
