Sudden request paves way for Messi’s return to Barcelona

Barcelona head coach Javi Hernandez surprised the club’s management, led by Joan Laporta, by asking for the return of Argentine star Lionel Messi to the ranks of the Blue Garnet.

According to the Sport newspaper, young coach Javi Hernandez asked Laporta to return Messi to Barça after his contract with Saint-Germain expired.

The 35-year-old’s contract with the Parisian team expires in the summer of 2023 as Xavi wants him back before the start of the 2023-2024 season.

Xavi believes that the return of Messi will contribute to the revival of Barça at the sporting and financial levels, as well as the ability of the flea to resolve the differences that erupted between him and Barça in the best possible way to close his Catalan page before retiring.

The Argentine international left Camp Nou last year after his contract with Barcelona expired to join Saint-Germain on a free transfer, having spent most of his career in a Blaugrana shirt.

Although Messi will turn 36 next summer, Xavi still believes in the player’s ability to provide the necessary additions to the Catalan team.
