German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine had led to a “historic break” in relations between Berlin and Moscow.
And Reuters on Friday quoted Steinmeier as saying: “When we look at Russia today, old dreams disappear. Today our two countries are facing each other.”
He added that Germany was “plunging into a new era, an era of insecurity that we seemed to have overcome”, pointing to the danger of “war fires” in Europe.
