Slovak Defense Minister: We did not supply MiG-29s to Ukraine, but we are doing it

Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad confirmed that the MiG-29 fighters of the Slovak Air Force are still in the republic, but said that negotiations about their fate are still ongoing.

Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad tweeted today, Sunday, that “MiG-29 fighters of the Slovak Air Force are still present in the republic,” but said that “negotiations about them are still ongoing.” And this is happening in response to the fact that some media and social networks have spread information that the fighters have already been transferred to the Ukrainian side.

According to the minister: “MiG-29 fighters are still at the Seliac air base (in central Slovakia), and they will guard our airspace until the end of August, and they can be seen on August 27-28 (on World Aviation Days) at the air base Kohenia (west of the country), We will officially separate from her there. While a final decision has not been made, and when the situation changes, we will inform you.”

On July 25, Minister Yaroslav Nad said that discussions are ongoing on the financial aspect of the supply of 11 Slovak MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine, which will guard the airspace of Slovakia from September 1, if agreed to transfer Slovak MiG-29s to Ukraine.

For now, the agreement with Warsaw and Prague is expected to remain in place until the end of 2023, but if necessary, it will be extended until Slovakia receives 14 F-16 fighter jets it bought from the United States. The delivery of these aircraft was supposed to begin this year, but due to the lack of electronic components from the manufacturer, the delivery process was delayed for two years.
