Senior Chinese official to visit Russia next week

State media reported on Sunday that China’s top MP Li Zhanshu will visit Russia next week.

China’s official news agency Xinhua reported that Li, who ranks third in China’s power hierarchy, will visit Russia, Mongolia, Nepal and South Korea from Wednesday to September 17.

He will attend the Eastern Economic Forum, scheduled for 4 days starting Monday, in the Russian city of Vladivostok, in the Russian Far East.

Li, 72, is likely to step down from his Communist Party post at a landmark conference next month that sees President Xi Jinping take office for a third consecutive term.

As for Xi, he has not left China since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020.
