Russian State Duma reveals plans to introduce digital ruble for international trade

Anatoly Aksakov, Chairman of the Financial Market Committee of the State Duma, announced plans to launch a digital ruble, stressing that negotiations are underway with a number of countries to use it in foreign trade transactions.

“We are now hard at work on the digital ruble, and we have practical plans to launch it, including on the foreign market. Negotiations are underway to actively use the digital ruble in foreign trade operations,” Aksakov said at the Cheboksary Economic Forum.

Aksakov explained that there was nothing to worry about the devaluation of the ruble, and said: “I’m not worried about the depreciation of the ruble against the dollar and the euro, in my opinion the exchange rate is quite normal compared to the current level of inflation.”

Aksakov pointed out that Russian exports significantly exceed imports and that the excess of exports over imports is due to the huge volume of Russian exports of basic materials and energy.
