Russian Representative at Hague Court: 2014 Ukraine Boeing Crash Cannot be Classified as Terrorist Attack

The representative of the Russian delegation and Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Gennady Kuzmin said at a meeting of the International Court of Justice that the crash of a Boeing plane in Ukraine in July 2014 cannot be considered a terrorist attack.

Kuzmin said the Ukrainian evidence that flight MH17 was shot down by the Russian Buk air defense system is not very convincing and is based on false claims.

He added: “Ukraine has also failed to prove terrorist motives for the downing of flight MH17. On the contrary, even the Hague District Court, which had shown explicit reservations against the Donetsk People’s Republic and supported Ukraine, concluded that in this case there was no intention to shoot down the city aircraft and that the BAK system was used to protect the airspace.

He continued: “The court, the Dutch prosecutor’s office and the joint committee of inquiry (in this plane crash) agreed that there was no indication of terrorism or war crime in this case.”
