The US Treasury Department reported that Russian investments in US government securities increased in November last year compared to the previous month and reached $2.092 billion.
Figures released by the ministry on Wednesday show that Russian investment in October was $2.034 billion and $2.015 billion in September, and has stood at just over $2 billion since March. Prior to this, in February, the volume of Russian investments in US government securities amounted to $3.753 billion.
In November, the share of long-term bonds in Russian investments accounted for $80 million (in October – $25 million), and short-term bonds – $2.012 billion (in October – $2.009 billion).
Russia began to sharply reduce investments in US public debt in the spring of 2018: in April, its level fell from $96 billion to $48.7 billion, and in May to $14.9 billion.
Japan retains its first position as the largest holder of US government securities in November ($1.06 trillion in October). China is second ($877.8 billion in October) and the UK is third ($641.3 billion in October).
