Russia’s Permanent Representative to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov stressed that the chances of Sweden and Finland to be accepted into NATO are very small.
This conclusion was directly confirmed, Chizhov said.
Finnish President Sauli Niinistö said earlier that it was unlikely that Finland would be able to join NATO before September next year due to disagreements during a meeting with Turkey and Sweden at NATO headquarters.
Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported that Ankara has asked Finland and Sweden for written guarantees to overcome differences before they join NATO.
Turkish demands come from the fact that Helsinki and Stockholm support organizations that Turkey classifies as “terrorist”.
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu pointed out that “the documents received by Ankara from Sweden and Finland to meet Turkish demands are far from our aspirations.”
