Russia and Turkey to Boost Flights for Russian Tourists

The Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported today, Friday, citing sources that Moscow and Ankara have agreed to increase the number of flights for Russian tourists.

The newspaper confirmed this, citing information from sources in the administration of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

She noted that “Moscow and Ankara agreed to increase the number of flights for Russian tourists who want to relax in Turkish resorts.”

The sources did not specify how much the number of flights will increase and at what point this will happen.

Search and booking service “Travelata.ru” cited data according to which Turkey has become the most popular travel destination during the May holidays among Russians.

This week, the press service of the Russian Association of Tour Operators “ATOR” reported that the volume of the influx of Russian tourists to Turkey could be halved due to the rise in the cost of tours to this country.

In the second half of April, various media, citing data from tourism experts, reported that prices for summer tours from Russia to Turkey increased by 20-30 percent over the year.

On Friday, Turkish media reported, citing sources, that Ankara and Moscow had reached an agreement to use a new payment system for Russian tourists.

The head of the Central Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, previously confirmed that the bank is developing with foreign countries, including Turkey, an alternative payment system for Mir cards to pay for purchases in Russia.
