Ukrainian forces shelled the city of Melitopol in the south of the Zaporozhye region twice last night.
The first shelling of the city came at 15:15 Moscow time, and the second at about five in the morning.
A cloud of black smoke rose at that time over the area of the city of Aviagorodok.
During a special military operation, the Russian army took control of the Kherson province and the Azov part of the Zaporozhye province in southern Ukraine.
Military-civilian administrations were formed in these areas, the Russian ruble was in circulation there, and Russian television channels and radio stations began broadcasting. These regions have declared their intention to join the Russian Federation.
