German club RB Leipzig sacked coach Domenico Tedesco on Wednesday after a heavy 4-1 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in the first group stage of the Champions League.

A statement on the club’s official website reads: “Leipzig immediately separated from Domenico Tedesco. This is the result of detailed discussions following their 4-1 home loss to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday night.”

He added that “assistant Andreas Henkel and Max Orowanczyk are also relieved of their duties. The club will provide information on the successor to the coach in due course.”

In addition to this heavy loss, Leipzig, who have always rivaled Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title along with Borussia Dortmund, are suffering from a poor start in the German league as they are pleased with winning one of the first five stages compared to two draws and two losses. and ranked eleventh.

Last December, the Italian-German took over from American Jesse Marsh in Leipzig when the team were in eleventh place and managed to improve their results and finish the season in fourth place, qualifying for the Champions League.

It was the coach who led Leipzig to their first ever title after winning the German Cup 2022 at the expense of Freiburg in the final on penalties.
