Putin: The economic situation in Russia is better than in many other countries

Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that Russia is already experiencing an economic downturn, but the economic situation in Russia is better than in many other countries.

Putin said at a press conference following the meeting of the leaders of the Eurasian Economic Union in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek: “When we were predicted to have an economic downturn in Russia by 20%, there was a downturn, but 2.9% is, of course, a big difference. And we realize that those who predicted this turn of events for us were very wrong. To say that we are doing a very good job may be an understatement, but the situation is indeed better than in many other countries.”

He pointed out that inflation in Russia is now at 12% and is expected in 2022 as a whole at the level of 12.2% -12.3%, while in some European countries the figure reaches 17% and 20%.

He also pointed out that the unemployment rate in Russia is 3.9%, which means that Russia needs a labor force, including from the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Today, in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, a meeting of the leaders of the Eurasian Economic Union was held with the participation of President of Russia Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadir Jabarov and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich .
