Protests Erupt at Ben Gurion Airport Against Netanyahu’s Plan in Israel

Today, Monday, thousands of Israelis protested at Ben Gurion International Airport against a plan to reform the judiciary proposed by the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which resulted in the closure of the road leading to the airport.

Protesters blocked the road to the airport and prevented movement inside it in the latest mass demonstration against the Netanyahu government’s plan to reform the judiciary.

The Netanyahu government’s attempts to reform the judiciary have plunged Israel into an unprecedented crisis.

The demonstrators blocked the main road near the main building of Ben Gurion Airport and held a demonstration in the arrivals hall.

Police said they had arrested at least four people in connection with the civil unrest.

Netanyahu and his hardline political allies are pushing ahead with plans to make controversial changes to the Israeli judiciary after attempts to reach a compromise with opposition lawmakers failed and the planned reform drew rebuke from US President Joe Biden’s administration and dismay from American Jews.

Netanyahu ally Simcha Rothman, who chairs the parliamentary committee on the Constitution, Law and Justice and spearheaded a process of sweeping reforms, said on Monday he would introduce a bill that would strip the Supreme Court of the power to overturn government decisions it considers “unreasonable” this week.
