US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said the United States is providing Ukraine with the weapons it needs to achieve victory in the conflict.
“Yes, I think that’s the right thing to do,” Austin said during a Senate hearing on Tuesday, when asked if the US administration is supplying Ukraine with weapons that would enable it to win and end the war.
He continued: “This is something we talk about with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine almost weekly. Every month we meet with defense ministers from about 50 countries and discuss their needs.”
“We hope that Ukraine will start to change the situation on the battlefield later,” he added.
In turn, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during the hearing indicated that the United States began supplying weapons to Ukraine before the start of the Russian military operation, so that the Ukrainian side had “everything necessary to counter this aggression.”
He explained that some of the weapons were secretly provided.
It is noteworthy that the total cost of US military assistance provided to Ukraine since the start of the Russian military operation in February 2022 has reached $36.9 billion.
