Greek Coast Guard Rescues Over 300 Migrants

Introduction

On Thursday, the Greek Coast Guard announced that more than 300 migrants had arrived on islands off the Turkish coast in separate incidents over the past three days.

Coast Guard Statement

The Coast Guard said in a statement that “authorities on Wednesday found 107 people on the islands of Samos and Mykonos, as well as on the small island of Row, which is located in the Mediterranean off the southern coast of Turkey.”

The Coast Guard also said that “an additional 109 people arrived on Wednesday in Lesbos, Rhodes, Samos and Santorini, and on Tuesday another 118 people arrived in Row, Rhodes and Lesbos.”

“Most of the migrants were picked up near the coast by patrol boats with inflatable boats or other vessels, and all of them were transferred to migrant reception centers,” the Coast Guard said.

Tragic Discovery

Greek authorities have found the bodies of 18 people suspected of being immigrants in a wildfire in northeastern Greece.
