Atlético Madrid have announced the permanent signing of French striker Antoine Griezmann from Barcelona.

Atlético Madrid have confirmed in a statement posted on the official website that an agreement has been reached with Barcelona to sign Griezmann on a permanent basis, with a contract extension until the summer of 2026.

Griezmann signed for Barcelona from Atlético Madrid in 2019 for 120 million euros ($116.5 million), but he has struggled to gain a foothold at the Camp Nou and was loaned out to Atlético Madrid last August. of the year.

The clause stipulated that €40m should be paid if he played more than 45 minutes in 50% of Atlético’s matches between July 2021 and June 2023.

With the World Cup approaching in Qatar and Griezmann’s desire for more involvement, Atlético and Barcelona have agreed a new contract valued at €20m, with Barcelona President Joan Laporta confirming the figure at the club’s general assembly on Sunday.

Laporta said: “That’s 20 million euros plus 4 in variable points. There is another clause in the contract in case Atlético decide to sell him in the future, as he has to pay us the remaining difference of up to 40 euros. million euros, which were previously agreed.

Atlético has not announced the amount of the current deal.

Griezmann made 303 appearances for Colchoneros, scoring 144 goals in two periods.
