Al Ahly have said goodbye to their Moroccan defender Badr Banoun, who are demanding his move to the Qatari club for personal reasons, having spent two years with the Egyptian team, during which he won the Champions League and Club World Cup bronze.

The official Al Ahli channel quoted the club’s director of football, Syed Abdel Hafiz, as saying that Bannon was the one who asked to leave the Qatari league for personal reasons during a special meeting in which he met the player.

Abdel Hafiz indicated that he linked the approval of Qatar’s offer to the decision of Al Ahli coach Ricardo Soares and continued: “Badr appreciates Al Ahly Club’s position and support during the last period, but the things he cannot control and which prevent him from fulfilling his contract with the club.”

He continued: “I took Badr Banon and we talked to Ricardo Soares, the coach, because he is the one who makes technical decisions in such matters and he is the one who determines the team’s need for this or that player.”

He concluded: “Soares spoke with Bannon to find out the reasons for the latter’s request to leave at this particular time, and the player explained his position by saying that he could not continue due to special circumstances and hoped that Al Ahly would agree to club’s Qatari proposal and the coach’s response was unequivocal in approval until the player can stay and adapt in the team.”

According to the Moroccan press, Al-Ahly received $2.5 million in transfers to Qatar for Bannon, including 15 percent of the proceeds from his future sale.

Bannon has been absent from stadiums for a long time due to heart muscle problems after contracting the Corona virus and has also been criticized by Al Ahly fans after the latter lost the African Champions League final against Wydad Casablanca due to his appearance in the dressing room of the latter after the match.

Bannon, 28, started his career with Raja Casablanca in 2013, took the colors of the Moroccan national team three times and joined Al Ahli two seasons ago.
