Nursing industry poised to go on strike prior to Christmas in the UK

Royal College of Nursing President Pat Cullen said the nurses’ strike could continue “until Christmas” if the government doesn’t change its NHS pay strategy.

Cullen warned that the country could “see our medical staff picketing before Christmas. But we don’t want that,” emphasizing that “we need to get this health service back off the brink.”

She said the government’s lawsuit against the nurses this week made them feel abandoned.

It comes as tens of thousands of nurses in England go on strike for twenty-eight hours starting Sunday evening after the union rejected the government’s offer to settle a wage dispute.

For his part, UK Health Secretary Steve Barclay called the strike “disappointing” and accused the nursing college of endangering patients’ lives.
